Joined at
the head for nearly three decades, Laleh and Ladan Bijani were determined to
live separate lives—regardless of the risks. All they wanted, they said, was
to be able to look at each other without a mirror. But who would be willing
to perform the elective, highly experimental procedure? Enter neurosurgeon
Ben Carson and colleagues. In this ABC News program, Dr. Carson discusses
why he was willing to conduct the pioneering operation, how he is coping
with the death of both twins during it, and some of the ethical issues
raised by it. (23 minutes)
